Position Title: Service Technician

Department: Service

Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Supervises: None

Work Schedule: 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., M-F

JOB SUMMARY
Repair Fire Apparatus. Travel to fire departments as needed. Perform preventative maintenance on fire apparatus. Maintain clean and neat work areas and shop. Respond to emergencies as needed. Work OT as requested. Report to service manager for daily tasks. Complete all required paperwork accurately. Interact with customers as a positive representative of Sutphen East Corp.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Travel when required to Fire Departments
  • Preform preventative maintenance on fire apparatus
  • Respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Work Overtime as requested

WORKING CONDITIONS
Manufacturing environment; may be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts, and exotic materials.

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a clean Class A or B CDL
Experience in Hydraulics, Plumbing, electrical and general mechanics

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or Equivalent

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have a strong understanding of how to interpret and use blueprints, welding specifications and welding procedures.

Must be able to use and read welding measuring devices to include but not limited to squares, levels and tape measures.

Must be able to make repair welds using fabrication equipment and a variety of hand tools.

The ability to operate a forklift and lifting devices for movement of parts and cabs.

Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.

Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with basic math to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry and algebra for the purpose calculating material fabrication.

Ability to read and use a tape measure.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to walk; stoop and bend; and work on overhead structures.

The employee is exposed to gases and fumes and glare from welding rods requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The use of lifting devices and the “Buddy System” are available.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment that may include but not limited to: safety glasses, hearing protectors, safety shoes, welding hood, sleeves, protective clothing, etc.
