Job Summary:
The Purchasing-HS Buyer is responsible for supporting the purchasing department in the purchase of parts, materials, and services to ensure that the company’s operational needs are met, considering price, quality, and delivery.
Essential Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Order and obtain required parts, specific to the individual fire trucks, such as:
pumps, foam systems, nonstandard valves, special adaptors, and intake caps. - Handle correspondence concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, delivery dates, and prices and report such changes to the interested parties in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels consistent with targeted inventory goals and as set by management,
- Monitor supplier performance by ensuring that parts are delivered as scheduled and that specifications are met.
- Maintain appropriate files and records of meetings with suppliers to ensure company requirements are met.
- Ensure Sutphen’s parameters are maintained by monitoring minimum, maximum, and current inventory levels, making recommendations to management for adjustments to levels.
- Maintain a positive attitude with team unity.
- This position supports the shipping/receiving department when needed.
- Communicate with supervisors, employees, and other building departments any issue(s) related to performing the duties of this position.
- Comply with organizations specific polices and procedures, and safety and health standards including housekeeping standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned/needed.
Education and Experience Requirements
- BA in Materials Management, Business Administration or related field or equivalent education and experience.
- 3+ years related experience including purchasing, parts negotiation, and supplier relationships.
Skills / Requirements:
- High attention to detail.
- Proficient in relevant computer applications (Microsoft Office Excel and other Microsoft Office Software).
- Professional and polite communication skills.
- Dependable and reliable, with the ability to multi-task and make good decisions.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to set own schedule and direction.
- Forklift Experience a plus!
- Previous experience in shipping/receiving a plus!
Work Environment:
- The position is in a busy, open office environment with frequent interruptions.
- The employee is regularly required to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Occasionally the employee must kneel or crouch, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, and talk and hear.
- The employee may occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
- The employee will frequently spend time using office equipment such as telephone, fax, copier, printer, computer, etc.
